WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF AWASOG / WACOG EMERITUS PROF. J.I BRIAN-D ADINMA

I am immensely delighted to invite and welcome all of you - Fellows, intending Fellows/members, benefactors and stakeholders to the 4th Congress of AWASOG/WACOG holding in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria from 3rd to 6th September, 2025.

Recall that this Association was inaugurated on 17th February, 2020; essentially to promote the identity of practicing Obstetricians and Gynecologists in the West African Sub region and ginger them to commit wholly and entirely towards the promotion, upholding and protecting the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women in the West African Sub region - particularly amongst the poor, vulnerable and underserved.

The past five (5) years has witnessed the gradual development of the Association which culminated in the inauguration and investiture of foundation fellows of the West African College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the launching of the maiden edition of the West African Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (WAJOG), thereby further extending a deserved identity to the Association.

The success of that Congress has no doubt inspired the Council to direct that the Congress becomes an annual event.

The Theme of the Congress - "Advancing Women's Health in the West African Sub-Region: Innovation, Equity and Sustainable Practices" is loaded and speaks volume as to what to expect at the Congress, and along with the 5 Sub themes - "Maternal Health and challenges in combating Maternal Mortality in West Africa"; "Family Planning and Post Abortion Care"; "Gynaecological Cancer: Prevention and Screening"; "Gender Equality and Gender based Violence"; and "Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Mobile Health Solutions for Maternal Care".

These theme and sub themes will no doubt provide participants with a varied array of knowledge and information seldom encountered. Speakers at the conference will be carefully selected to deliver nothing but the best to participants at the Congress.

Exhibitions on State of the Art Equipments in Women's healthcare together with demonstrations from partner stakeholders will constitute additional events to liven the Conference. The Congress Venue: The Silver Green Luxury Hotel, a new high rise hospitality edifice holds promise to spoil all and sundry in attendance at the Congress.

I urge all Fellows, intending Fellows/Members and all Stakeholders to block the conference dates and begin early to plan to attend. More importantly, it is with all sincerity that I encourage OBS/GYN professionals to apply to receive the prestigious award of Fellowship of the West African College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

God bless you as you come.
